Scanning to PDF — Tips for Better Quality Scans

Scanning Best Practices

Resolution Settings

  • Documents — 150-200 DPI (readable, small file size)
  • Photos — 300 DPI (high quality)
  • Archival — 600 DPI (maximum quality)

  • After Scanning

  • Rotate PDF — fix any pages that scanned sideways
  • Remove Pages — delete blank or bad scans
  • Reorder Pages — fix page sequence
  • Compress PDF — reduce file size
  • Add Page Numbers — number the pages

  • Combining Multiple Scans

Scanned pages individually? Use Merge PDF to combine them into one document.

    Reducing Scan Size

  • Compress PDF — re-optimize embedded images
  • Grayscale PDF — convert to B&W if color isn't needed
  • Crop PDF — trim scanner borders
